DAYA ANTIBAKTERI INFUSA BUNGA CENGKEH (Syzygium aromaticum) TERHADAP Staphylococcus aureus

Nurmadi, Roliyus Tri - Personal Name;

Introduction: Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram-positive microorganism that can be found in the human body, including in the oral cavity. These microorganisms can cause various diseases in the oral cavity, including abscesses, gingivitis, mucositis, parotitis, angular cheilitis, and denture stomatitis. The use of chlorhexidine can overcome this, but it can cause side effects. This problem can be overcome by using alternative traditional ingredients derived from plants which have antibacterial properties. One plant that has been widely used by the community as a traditional medicinal plant is cloves (Syzygium aromaticum). Clove flowers are a plant that can be used as an antibacterial because they contain a high compound in the form of eugenol which can inhibit bacterial growth. The aim of this research was to determine the antibacterial power of clove flower infusion (Syzygium aromaticum) against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Methods: This research is an in vitro experimental laboratory research. The test group used clove flower infusion with concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% obtained through the infusion method. Chlorhexidine as a positive control and distilled water as a negative control. The antibacterial power of clove flower infusion against Staphylococcus aureus was tested using the disc diffusion method to determine the diameter of the inhibition zone. The results of the inhibition zone values were then analyzed statistically using the Independent T test. Results: This study revealed that the 100% concentration of clove flower infusion had an average inhibition zone of 3,501 mm, but smaller than Klorheksidin. Conclusion: Clove flower infusion (Syzygium aromaticum) has antibacterial power against Staphylococcus aureus
