PENGARUH DURASI BERMAIN GAME MOBILE TERHADAP RISIKO DE QUERVAIN’S SYNDROME PADA MAHASISWA DI FAKULTAS KEDOKTERAN UNIVERSITAS SRIWIJAYA

Prakoso, Herlambang Yudho - Personal Name;

Background: De Quervain’s Syndrome (DQS) is an inflammatory condition of the tendons controlling thumb movement, often caused by overuse and repetitive activities, such as mobile gaming. With the increasing use of smartphones, this study aims to identify the impact of mobile gaming duration on the risk of DQS among medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University. Methods: This study employs a cross-sectional design with an analytical approach. The sample consists of 105 active students from the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University, who play mobile games. Data were collected through interviews and the De Quervain Screening Tool (DQST) and analyzed using the Somers' D correlation test. Results: The results showed that the duration of mobile gaming had no significant relationship with the risk of De Quervain’s syndrome in both the right and left hands, with p-values > 0.05 for both hands. Conclusion: The duration of mobile game play does not significantly impact the risk of De Quervain’s syndrome among students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sriwijaya, particularly considering the age range of participants, all of whom were young adults. This study highlights the need for further investigation into other potential risk factors, such as the type of smartphone used, the genre of games played, and the number of hands employed during gameplay, which may contribute to the development of DQS. Keywords: Mobile Gaming Duration, De Quervain’s Syndrome, Musculoskeletal Disorders, Pain, Thumb.
