BUDAYA MAKAN IBU DENGAN ANAK STUNTING DI PUSKESMAS KERTAPATI KOTA PALEMBANG
Background. Stunting is a condition of height more than two standard deviations below the median standard curve of child growth. Kertapati Health Center has the highest number of stunting cases in Palembang City. Maternal dietary practices during pregnancy has the potential to influence maternal nutritional intake and fetal growth; however, research on this topic remains limited, particularly in the Kertapati area. Therefore, this research aims to determine maternal eating culture during pregnancy in mothers with stunted children at Kertapati Health Center, Palembang City. Methods. This study used a descriptive qualitative design. Data collection was conducted in September–October 2025 at Kertapati Public Health Center, Palembang. Participants were selected using purposive sampling, followed by completion of maternal characteristic questionnaires and in-depth interviews with mothers of children with stunting as well as supporting informants. Results. The majority of mothers with stunted children during pregnancy were in the age range of 20–35 years, had secondary education, were not employed, and had economic status below the regional minimum wage (UMK). Maternal characteristics generally showed good nutritional and health conditions (height ≥150 cm, normal BMI, without anemia, infection, or hypertension), pregnancy interval ≥24 months, ≥6 antenatal care (ANC) visits, history of exclusive breastfeeding, and infants with normal birth weight. Six out of 9 mothers only became aware of the term "stunting" after their child was diagnosed. Although almost all mothers had received nutritional education, implementation was not optimal due to nausea and vomiting, economic limitations, and insufficient nutritional knowledge. Local cultural practices such as eating only after completing domestic work were still found. Food taboos during pregnancy were quite numerous, such as avoiding stingray fish, pineapple, durian, glutinous rice, fermented cassava, ice water, and carbonated beverages. Conclusion. Maternal dietary practices during pregnancy is influenced by knowledge, socioeconomic conditions, as well as dietary habits and food taboos that are passed down through generations.
