UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI HIDROLISAT KOLAGEN TULANG IKAN TENGGIRI (SCOMBEROMORUS SP.) TERHADAP BAKTERI STREPTOCOCCUS MUTANS
Background: Streptococcus mutans is one of the main factors causing dental caries. The side effects of improper use of antibacterial drugs create an urgency to seek alternative materials. Mackerel fish is a type of marine fish whose collagen hydrolysate has potential as an alternative antibacterial agent. Aim: This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of collagen hydrolysate from mackerel fish bones against Streptococcus mutans. Methods: This research is an in vitro laboratory study. Collagen was extracted with an acid solution, then hydrolyzed using bromelain enzyme with different hydrolysis times of 60 minutes, 90 minutes, and 120 minutes. The antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans was tested using the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method to determine the diameter of the inhibition zone. The positive control in this study was 0.2% chlorhexidine. Results: The highest average diameter of the inhibition zone was shown by the positive control group with 0.2% chlorhexidine, measuring 21.15 mm (p>0,05), followed by the groups with hydrolysis times of 120 minutes (p0,05), and 60 minutes (p
