One of the factors causing exclusive breastfeeding not to be achieved is because giving MP-ASI to babies is not appropriate. This research aims to describe mothers' perceptions of providing early MP-ASI in 3 villages: Talang Pangeran Ilir, Ulak Kembahang I and Talang Pangeran Ulu. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive research design, with data collection methods using interviews, observation and documentation. The selection of informants was carried out using a purposive sampling technique involving 12 mothers of toddlers, 12 families of mothers of toddlers, 3 village midwives, 3 posyandu cadres and 1 head of nutrition. The results of this research are actions in providing early MP-ASI, namely that the majority have done IMD, the condition of some mothers of toddlers' breast milk does not come straight away and some others come straight away but the milk production is small so they are only able to provide breast milk for < 2 weeks, the type of early MP-ASI milk formula, honey, dragon fruit and avocado, frequency every 2 hours and only once when the child is 5 months old. Meanwhile, the perception of benefits is that children are calm and gain weight, children can be entrusted to supporting informants so that mothers of toddlers can do other activities and judging from the existing culture, mothers of toddlers think that children do not get sick easily and are full. The perception of the obstacle is that it is a hassle to make formula milk. The majority of mothers of toddlers do not feel the obstacle if they look at the condition of the toddler and the high price of milk. Researchers hope to empower posyandu cadres regarding the importance of not giving early MP-ASI to toddlers so that cadres can convey this to mothers of toddlers during counseling at posyandu.
