AKTIVITAS ANTIJAMUR PERMEN JELI LIDAH BUAYA (ALOE VERA) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN Candida albicans SECARA IN VITRO
Background: Candida albicans is a microorganism that can be a pathogen in the oral cavity and lead to a disease like oral candidiasis. Aloe vera has been proven to have antifungal activity against C. albicans and can be made into a jelly candy product. Aim: This study aims to determine the antifungal activity of Aloe vera jelly candy against C. albicans. Method: This study was an in vitro experimental laboratory research with a post-test-only control group design. The treatment groups for this study were Aloe vera jelly candy, jelly candy with no Aloe vera, and nystatin as positive control. Those third treatments were tested for antifungal activity against C. albicans using the disc diffusion method. The antifungal activity can be seen from the inhibition zone that formed as a clear area around the paper disc. The diameter of inhibition then was measured in millimeters (mm) using a sliding caliper. Result: The result showed that there was no inhibition zone formed around the discs of Aloe vera jelly candy, jelly candy with no Aloe vera, and only in positive control (nystatin) with a diameter of 16,84 mm. Conclusion: Aloe vera jelly candy did not have antifungal activity against C. albicans, thus further research by doing extraction process on Aloe vera and using different temperatures is needed to obtain antifungal potency from Aloe vera substances on jelly candy formulation.
