HUBUNGAN KUALITAS UDARA DI DALAM RUMAH TERHADAP PENULARAN PENYAKIT TUBERKULOSIS DI WILAYAH KERJA PUSKESMAS SUKARAMI

Akbar, M. Hafiz - Personal Name;

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that remains a major public health concern. The physical environment within the home, particularly indoor air quality, is suspected to contribute to the increased risk of TB transmission. This study aimed to determine the relationship between indoor air quality and the incidence of TB in the working area of Puskesmas Sukarami. Methods: This study employed a case–control design with a 1:2 ratio, involving 12 case households and 24 control households. Indoor air quality measurements were conducted using a portable air quality monitor to assess physical parameters (PM₁₀, PM₂.₅, temperature, humidity) and chemical parameters (CO, CO₂) over an 8-hour period during the residents’ peak activity time. Data on respondent characteristics, environmental factors, and housing conditions were collected through interviews using a structured questionnaire, while TB case data were confirmed using medical records. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 25 with descriptive analysis and Chi-square tests (p < 0.05). Results: The findings showed that most indoor air quality parameters did not meet health standards. Among all variables analyzed, only PM₁₀ demonstrated a significant association with TB incidence (p = 0.017). Other variable: temperature, humidity, PM₂.₅, CO, and CO₂, showed no significant relationship. Conclusion: PM₁₀ exposure is the indoor air quality parameter most strongly associated with TB incidence. Efforts to improve indoor air quality should be considered an essential component of TB transmission prevention strategies. Keywords: Indoor air quality, PM₁₀, Tuberculosis
