EFEKTIVITAS EKSTRAK UBI JALAR UNGU (IPOMOEA BATATAS L.) SEBAGAI DISCLOSING SOLUTION PADA ANAK USIA 11-12 TAHUN
Background: Dental plaque is the primary cause of oral health problems, such as caries and periodontal disease. Since plaque is often clinically invisible, a disclosing solution is required to facilitate its detection and removal. Purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) has potential as a disclosing solution due to its anthocyanin content, which provides color and antioxidant properties. Objective: to determine the effectiveness of purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) extract as a disclosing solution for identifying dental plaque in children aged 11-12 years. Methods: A quasi experimental study with a post-test control group design was conducted on 48 students from Muhammadiyah 14 Elementary School in Palembang. The subjects were divided into three groups: 12% purple sweet potato extract, 16% purple sweet potato extract, and erythrosine as a positive control. All subjects underwent the same pre-treatment, which involved consuming biscuits and UHT milk followed by a 2-hour fasting period. The Patient Hygiene Performance (PHP) plaque index was then measured and statistically analyzed using a one-way ANOVA test. Results: The average PHP plaque index for the 12% purple sweet potato extract group was 0.88, while the 16% group had an average index of 1.47. Both were lower compared to the erythrosine control group, which had an average index of 2.30. The one-way ANOVA analysis revealed significant differences (p
