PERBANDINGAN PROFIL LABORATORIUM PASIEN MORBUS HANSEN TIPE PAUSIBASILER DAN MULTIBASILER DI RUMAH SAKIT MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG PERIODE 2021–2024

Ramadhani, Muthia Syahla - Personal Name;

Morbus Hansen (MH) is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae, which affects the skin and peripheral nerves and remains a significant public health concern in Indonesia. According to the WHO classification, MH is divided into paucibacillary (PB) and multibacillary (MB) types. Laboratory examinations, including slit-skin smear (SSS), bacterial index (BI), morphological index (MI), complete blood count (CBC), and G6PD, play an important role in supporting diagnosis and assessing the patient’s clinical condition. This study employed a descriptive design with a comparative analytical approach using secondary data from the medical records of PB and MB MH patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang for the period of 2021 2024. Using a total sampling method, 135 MH patients were identified, and 29 samples met the inclusion criteria, consisting of 23 MB and 6 PB patients. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods with SPSS. Univariate analysis showed that most MH patients were male (65.5%), with adults representing the largest age group (82.8%), and high school being the most common education level (41.4%). The majority of patients had positive SSS results (69%), with a high BI (65.5%) and active MI (62.1%). The mean values of hemoglobin, erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets, eosinophils, neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, and G6PD were within normal ranges. Bivariate analysis of categorical variables demonstrated significant differences between PB and MB types in SSS (p < 0,001), BI (p < 0,001), MI (p < 0,001), and monocytes (p = 0,01). For numerical variables, BI (p = 0,001), MI (p < 0,001), and hemoglobin (p = 0,022) also showed significant differences. SSS, BI, and MI were identified as the main parameters distinguishing PB and MB patients, accompanied by significant differences in monocyte and hemoglobin levels, indicating differences in clinical characteristics between the two types. Keywords: Morbus Hansen, paucibacillary, multibacillary, hematology, laboratory
