PERENCANAAN DAN PERANCANGAN RUMAH SUSUN DI GANDUS, PALEMBANG
The population of Palembang City increases every year, leading to a growing demand for housing. As a result, many buildings are constructed in unsuitable areas, causing dense, unorganized neighborhoods that are prone to becoming slums. This is especially evident along riverbanks, which are often used as residential areas due to easy access to transportation and basic needs. The Gandus area is classified as a slum and requires revitalization through the design of low-cost apartments. The apartment design in this final project adopts a Waterfront Architecture approach, which considers the characteristics of the river environment as well as the social and cultural aspects of the surrounding community. The building design is adapted to the local climate and optimizes natural lighting and ventilation. Green open spaces are provided on the site as areas for social interaction and ecological function, utilizing the riverside area. The roof is designed with a sloping form to limit direct sunlight and anticipate rainfall. The apartment complex consists of four buildings with a central open space that allows for air circulation and natural lighting. The structure uses simple columns and beams, supporting a form inspired by traditional landed houses to evoke a familiar atmosphere for residents. The riverbank area functions not only as a public open space but also as a natural filtration and water absorption zone. Keywords : Riverbank, Waterfront Architecture, Low-cost apartment.
