PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN BIOSILIKA SEKAM PADI PADA PEMBUATAN MATERIAL BIOFOAM DARI PATI SINGKONG, PVA DAN SERAT AMPAS TEBU
Biodegradable foam (biofoam) as a food packaging material is an alternative to conventional styrofoam packaging products that are more environmentally friendly because they can be decomposed naturally so that they do not cause environmental pollution. This experiment aims to determine the effect of the addition of rice husk biosilica in the manufacture of biofoam based on cassava starch and other additives namely bagasse fiber, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), Magnesium stearate, and coconut oil on the characteristics of biofoam namely density, water absorption, biodegradability and surface morphology. The manufacture of biofoam in this study uses the baking process method where biofoam is made in 4 sample formulations with variations in the addition of rice husk biosilica of 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% of the starch mass respectively. Biofoam was made by mixing all ingredients gradually until homogenized then molded and baked at 180℃ for 2 hours. The highest density was produced by biofoam with 20% biosilica variation with a density of 1.013gr⁄cm^3 . The lowest water absorption value was produced by biofoam with 20% biosilica variation with a water absorption of 5.3%. The fastest biodegradation is occurred by biofoam with 30%, 40% and 50% biosilica variation which can be decomposed naturally for 14 days. Then the results of morphological observations of the biofoam surface show the existence of gaps and different fiber sizes.
