PENGARUH VIDEO EDUKASI PEKA TERHADAP PENGETAHUAN PERAWATAN KAKI DALAM PENCEGAHAN ULKUS DIABETIKUM PADA PENDERITA DIABETES MELITUS

Utami, Maya Faiza - Personal Name;

Diabetic foot ulcers are one of the most common chronic complications in patients with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus and may lead to amputation. Inadequate knowledge of foot care increases the risk of developing diabetic foot ulcers; therefore, one preventive strategy is health education using PeKa (Foot Care) educational video media. This study aimed to determine the effect of the PeKa educational video on foot care knowledge for the prevention of diabetic foot ulcers among patients with diabetes mellitus. This study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 33 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a researcher-developed questionnaire that had undergone validity and reliability testing. Data analysis was performed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed that the mean knowledge score before the intervention was 14.91, which increased to 21.82 after the intervention, with a statistically significant p-value of 0.000 (α < 0.05). These findings indicate that the PeKa educational video had a significant effect on improving foot care knowledge for the prevention of diabetic foot ulcers. The use of the PeKa educational video was effective in increasing patients' knowledge, as the combination of visual and audio presentation facilitated understanding and daily application of foot care practices. Therefore, this media can be utilized as an effective health education tool for the prevention of diabetic foot ulcers among patients with diabetes mellitus.
