PENGARUH VIDEO ANIMASI BANTUAN HIDUP DASAR TERHADAP PENGETAHUAN MASYARAKAT TENTANG PERTOLONGAN PADA KORBAN TENGGELAM DI KAMPUNG SERDANG

Azizah, Yossi Nadilla - Personal Name;

Drowning is one of the leading causes of death in Indonesia as an archipelagic country. Kampung Serdang is an area where drowning incidents occur almost every year and where the community has never received education on Basic Life Support (BLS). Increasing community knowledge regarding BLS is important to improve victims’ chances of survival, one of which can be achieved through health education using animated video media. This study aimed to determine the effect of Basic Life Support animated videos on community knowledge in handling drowning victims in Kampung Serdang. This study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 33 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a BLS knowledge questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, and data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Univariate analysis showed that most respondents were adults (76.6%), female (76.6%), had a secondary education level (53%), earned income at the regional minimum wage level (36.6%), and none of the respondents had ever performed Basic Life Support. Knowledge levels before the intervention were mostly in the moderate category (63.6%) and increased to the good category (80%) after the intervention. Statistical analysis showed a p-value of 0.000 (α < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of animated video use on improving community knowledge. This study concludes that Basic Life Support animated videos are effective as a health education medium to improve community knowledge in dealing with emergency situations around aquatic environments.
