ANALISIS GEOMETRI PELEDAKAN UNTUK MENDAPATKAN HASIL FRAGMENTASI DAN DIGGING TIME OPTIMAL DI PT SEMEN PADANG (PERSERO)

Fadhlian, Ahmad Rofi - Personal Name;

PT Semen Padang (Persero) is one of the cement producers in Indonesia and the oldest cement company in the country. The rock fragmentation process in the mining activities is carried out through drilling and blasting methods, conducted by the blasting service of PT Dahana (Persero). The main problem encountered in the field is the inconsistency of fragmentation results, where several blasting operations produced excessively fine materials (overbreak), while others still contained large boulders. The company standard specifies that the percentage of boulders (≥80 cm) should not exceed 20%. This study aims to analyze the relationship between blasting geometry and the resulting fragmentation and digging time, as well as to determine the optimal blasting geometry design. Fragmentation data were processed using WipFrag software and the Kuz-Ram equation. From ten blasting observations, four blasts were categorized as underbreak and four as overbreak. For optimization, the R.L. Ash theoretical design (burden 4 m, spacing 6 m, stemming 2.8 m, explosive column length 8.2 m, and powder factor 0.18 kg/ton) successfully reduced the percentage of boulders to 9.2% (previously 20–30%) and decreased the average digging time from 15.194 seconds to 11.916 seconds. Meanwhile, adjusting the explosive column length from 7 m to 6 m reduced boulder occurrence to 13.77% and powder factor to 0.23 kg/ton, preventing overly fine fragmentation and causing a decrease in excavation time from 9.12 seconds to 10.2 seconds. In conclusion, the current blasting geometry produces varying fragmentation conditions, showing both overbreak and underbreak. The combination of the Kuz-Ram and WipFrag methods provides complementary results in predicting fragmentation, while optimizing blasting geometry significantly improves operational efficiency at PT Semen Padang. Recommendations include conducting gradual field trials for the new design, routine fragmentation monitoring using WipFrag, and calibrating the Kuz-Ram model with actual field data to improve prediction accuracy.
