HUBUNGAN ANTARA TEKANAN DARAH SISTOLIK DAN TEKANAN INTRAOKULAR PADA PENDERITA GLAUKOMA TIPE SUDUT TERBUKA DAN TERTUTUP DI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN

Background: Systolic blood pressure (SBP) is presumed to influence intraocular pressure (IOP), which is a major risk factor for glaucoma. However, previous studies have shown inconsistent findings. Furthermore, research directly assessing the relationship between SBP and primary angle-closure glaucoma (ACG) remains limited. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the relationship between SBP and IOP in both types of primary glaucoma. Methods: This study employed an analytical observational design with a crosssectional approach using medical record data of patients diagnosed with primary open-angle glaucoma (OAG) and primary angle-closure glaucoma (ACG) at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital, Palembang, from January 2024 to October 2025. Using a total sampling technique, 103 OAG patients (197 eyes) and 65 ACG patients (118 eyes) were obtained. The variables analyzed included systolic blood pressure, intraocular pressure, age, sex, and family history. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses. Results: Most patients were diagnosed with OAG, had elevated SBP, and were over 40 years old. Bivariate analysis showed significant correlations between SBP (p = 0.027) and sex (p = 0.036) in OAG, whereas in ACG, only sex showed a significant correlation (p = 0.031). Multivariate analysis of OAG revealed that SBP and sex had a statistically significant protective relationship after controlling for confounding variables, while no variables in ACG showed a significant association. Conclusion: SBP was correlated with IOP in OAG; however, when controlled for confounding variables, the relationship became protective. SBP was not correlated with IOP in ACG.
