KEKAYAAN JENIS LICHEN CORTICOLOUS PADA KELAPA SAWIT (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) PT. RAJA PALMA BERDASARKAN JARAK YANG BERBEDA DARI SUMBER PENCEMAR DI KABUPATEN BANYUASIN SUMATERA SELATAN
This study aims to determine the species richness of corticolous lichens found on oil palm trunks (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) in the plantation area of PT. Raja Palma, taking into account the variation in distance from a pollution source (a main road). Lichens are sensitive indicators of environmental changes, particularly air quality and humidity. The method used in this study was a survey with sampling conducted at three different distances (5 m, 50 m, and 150 m) from the pollution source. At each distance, several oil palm trees were observed to identify the species of lichens attached to their trunks. The results of the study showed that lichen species were present at all distances, with a tendency for an increase in both the number and richness of species as the distance from the pollution source increased. Environmental factors such as light intensity, wind speed, air humidity, and air temperature are believed to contribute to the abundance of lichens. These findings indicate that the distance from the pollution source affects the species richness of corticolous lichens, which can be used as an indicator of the ecological health of oil palm plantations.
