REKAYASA SISTEM PENGADUKAN DALAM PROSES PRODUKSI GREEN CHEMICALS BERBASIS KALIUM KARBONAT-GLISEROL

Deep Eutectic Solvent (DES) based on K2CO3-Glycerol is promising as green chemicals due to its environmentally friendly, economical, and sustainable properties. However, homogeneity and eutectic point are difficult to achieve and there is no large-scale production standard. This study aims to assess the effect of stirring engineering (stirrer type and speed) on the preparation of K2CO3-Glycerol DES, identify the physico-chemical properties of the product, and analyse the system design for higher scale with consistent quality. The dependent variables include colour, pH, density, viscosity, conductivity, freezing point, and water content. DES synthesis was carried out by mixing K2CO3with glycerol at a molar ratio of 1:3.5 and a temperature of 80°C with stirring using Single Pitch Blade Turbine (SPBT), Double Pitch Blade Turbine (DPBT), and Anchor agitators. The results showed that SPBT, DPBT, and Anchor agitators showed different characteristics on the parameters of pH, density, viscosity, conductivity, freezing point, and water content. The conductivity of the synthesised DES ranged from 352-485 μS/cm, lower than the standard because the test was conducted at 1% solution concentration. The Anchor stirrer produced higher density and viscosity values compared to SPBT and DPBT, especially in the A3 speed configuration (400 → 200 → 100 rpm). The Anchor-A3 configuration is the optimum condition to produce the most homogeneous, dense, and viscous K₂CO₃-Glycerol DES. DPBT-A3, Anchor-A1, and Anchor-A3 DES have a freezing point of -10°C, thus meeting the standard of Potassium-Glycerol DES pro analysis (DES K-G pa). Anchor-A3 DES is most recommended as a catalyst as it fulfils all the parameters of the Grand Research Sawit (GRS) standard and proved to be most effective in achieving optimum density and viscosity as well as stable pH and is an ideal choice for the production of green chemicals on an industrial scale.
