AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK ETANOL SABUT KELAPA (Cocos Nucifera Linn) TERHADAP BAKTERI PENYEBAB JERAWAT DAN INKORPORASI DALAM MASKER SHEET
Indonesia has abundant natural resources, especially in agriculture. One of its leading commodities comes from coconut plantations, Coconut is a versatile plant whose entire part can be utilized, including coconut fiber. Coconut fiber contains antibacterial compounds such as tannins, flavonoids, and polyphenols. This study aims to assess the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of coconut fiber (Cocos nucifera Linn) from the swamp area of South Sumatra against Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis. The extraction process was carried out by maceration using 96% ethanol, followed by phytochemical tests and antibacterial tests using the paper diffusion method at concentrations of 10-60%. The best concentration (60%) was continued to the sheet mask formulation and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) test. The results showed a yield of 12.89% and the content of flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and triterpenoids. The 60% concentration showed the highest inhibition (clear zone of 16.56 mm for P. acnes and 17.10 mm for S. epidermidis), while the sheet mask provided strong inhibition (13.03 mm and 13.87 mm). MIC was achieved at 2.5% for S. epidermidis and 3% for P. acnes. There was a significant relationship between concentration and antibacterial activity (p < 0.05), so that the ethanol extract of coconut fiber has potential as an antibacterial agent and has the opportunity to be further developed as an acne treatment in the form of a sheet mask.
