OPTIMALISASI PEMANFAATAN FEED ADDITIVE DALAM RANSUM TERHADAP PERFORMA AYAM BROILER

Feed additive are essential components in broiler chicken ration formulations, serving to improve growth performance, feed utilization efficiency, and gut health. The use of Antibiotic Growth Promoters (AGPs) has long been practiced due to their effectiveness in enhancing livestock productivity. However, concerns over antibiotic residues and antimicrobial resistance have prompted the search for safer and more environmentally friendly feed additive alternatives. One alternative is the use of natural substances such as probiotics and acidifier. Probiotics, particularly Lactobacillus, play a role in balancing intestinal microflora and enhancing nutrient absorption, while acidifier such as citric acid help create an acidic environment that inhibits the growth of pathogenic bacteria. Citrus waste, as a natural source of citric acid, can be utilized as an acidifier in the feed. The combination of citrus waste and Lactobacillus in the ration has been shown to increase body weight and improve feed conversion in broiler chickens. This study aims to determine the effects of feed additive utilization on body weight gain, feed intake, and feed conversion ratio in broilers.The research was conducted from January to February at the Poultry Experimental Farm, Sriwijaya University, using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications, involving 100 Day-Old Chicks (DOC). The treatments were as follows: P0 (without feed additive), P1 (0,8% Antibiotic tetracycline + 0,8% citrus waste powder), P2 (0,8% Antibiotic tetracycline + 1,2% citrus waste powder), P3 (0,8% probiotic + 0,8% citrus waste powder), P4 (0,8% probiotic + 1,2% citrus waste powder). This study observed three variables: feed intake, body weight gain, and feed conversion ratio in broiler chickens. The data obtained were analyzed using ANOVA, and if a significant effect was observed, Duncan’s Multiple Range Test was conducted as a post-hoc analysis. The results showed that the addition of feed additives in the form of probiotics and acidifier derived from orange peel waste powder had a significant effect (P0.05) on feed intake (23–26 grams/bird/day). In conclusion, the supplementation of 0.8% probiotics and 0.8% orange peel waste powder acidifier in the diet improves body weight gain and feed conversion efficiency in broiler chickens without affecting their feed intake.
