IDENTIFIKASI DAN KEANEKARAGAMAN POLYCHAETA DI MUARA SUNGAI MUSI, SUMATERA SELATAN
The Musi River Estuary is influenced by human activities that potentially decrease water quality and increase organic matter content. These conditions may affect the composition of aquatic organisms such as macrozoobenthos. Polychaetes, as one of the macrozoobenthos groups, are used as indicators of water quality due to their tolerance to environmental changes. This study aims to identify the species of Polychaeta, analyze community structure, and examine the correlation between environmental and sediment conditions with the Polychaeta community structure in the Musi River Estuary. Polychaete samples were collected using the quadrat transect method with a 30 cm PVC corer, replicated three times at each plot. Water quality parameters measured included temperature, pH, salinity, and dissolved oxygen (DO). Sediment samples were analyzed for texture and organic matter content. The results showed three Polychaete species: Nereis sp., Perinereis sp., and Capitella sp. Sediment textures found were sandy clay, clay, and clayey sand, with organic matter content ranging from 4–16%. Polychaete density ranged from 330–1651 ind/m³. The diversity index ranged from 0–0.67, evenness index from 0–0.61, and dominance index from 0.52–1. Based on PCA, the density and dominance of Polychaeta correlated with temperature and sandy sediment.
