STRATEGI DIPLOMASI OLAHRAGAINDONESIA MELALUI ATLET SEPAKBOLA DIASPORA TIM NASIONAL DALAM MEMPROMOSIKAN CITRA INDONESIA DI TINGKAT INTERNASIONALTAHUN 2021-2025
In the current dynamics of international relations, sport has become an effective soft power instrument for building a country's positive image and reputation. Indonesia, with its vast football potential, faces challenges in optimizing this role. This study aims to describe and analyze the effectiveness of the PSSI and the government's strategy in recruiting diaspora players to improve Indonesia's international image. Using descriptive qualitative research methods, this study applies Stuart Murray's New Sport Diplomacy conceptual framework, which is divided into two main indicators: Sport Event and Sport Envoy. The results show that this strategy has been significantly successful. Through the Sport Event indicator, the national team's participation in prestigious competitions such as the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers has shifted the international media narrative from a "sleeping giant" to an "ambitious challenger." Through the Sport Envoy indicator, diaspora athletes serve as highly effective informal ambassadors. Their unique personal stories and pride in representing their "ancestral homeland" have become powerful sports diplomacy assets, promoting Indonesia as a pluralistic, global nation that values its cultural heritage.
