HUBUNGAN TINGKAT KESADARAN DENGAN TINGKAT KEBERHASILAN OPERASI PADA PASIEN EPIDURAL HEMATOMA DI RS DR MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG

Meliala, Caroline Yemima Agita Sembiring - Personal Name;

Background: Epidural hematoma (EDH) is defined as the accumulation of blood between the dura mater and the internal table due to trauma. Epidural hematoma occupies intracranial space, which can cause rapid expansion of bleeding. This causes pressure on the brain and triggers clinical manifestations such as decreased consciousness, reversible or irreversible disability, and even death. GCS is the first thing to be done when a patient with head injury arrives at the hospital, while GOS is an indicator of the success of post-treatment in patients with head injury. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the level of consciousness based on GCS and the level of surgical success based on GOS in patients with epidural hematoma at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital in Palembang. Methods: This study is a retrospective cross-sectional study. The sample in this study consisted of 96 patients taken from secondary data in the form of medical records and met the inclusion criteria. Results: Most patients in the study showed good surgical outcomes (GOS 4–5) in 84 patients (87.5%), while patients with poor surgical outcomes (GOS 1–3) numbered 12 patients (12.5%). Most of the patients in the study showed good surgical outcomes (GOS 4–5) in 84 patients (87.5%), while patients with poor surgical outcomes (GOS 1–3) numbered 12 patients (12.5%). In the bivariate analysis, a significant relationship was found between the level of consciousness based on the GCS and the level of surgery based on the GOS in patients with epidural hematoma (p-value = 0.014 (p
