PENGARUH PERBANDINGAN BERAT SDS TERHADAP KINERJA KOMPOSIT Fe3O4-SDS UNTUK ADSORPSI CONGO RED

Fazurah, Maznah - Personal Name;

The dye that is widely used in the textile industry is congo red dye which is carcinogenic and toxic to many organisms so that processing is needed. Fe3O4-SDS (2:1) and (2:3) composites were used as adsorbents in the adsorption of congo red dye by synthesis using the coprecipitation method and then characterized by XRD, BET, VSM and FTIR. The XRD characterization results of Fe3O4-SDS (2:1) and (2:3) composites showed diffraction peaks similar to JCPDS 65-3107 of Fe3O4. The BET characterization results showed that the surface area of Fe3O4-SDS (2:1) and (2:3) composites were 45.538 m2/g and 51.891 m2/g. The VSM characterization results obtained the magnetization value of Fe3O4-SDS (2:1) and (2:3) composites were 60.14 emu/g and 50.48 emu/g. The FTIR characterization results showed the presence of Fe-O groups at wave numbers 432.05-567.07 cm-1 and S=O groups at wave numbers 1018.41-1219.01 cm-1. The pHpzc values of Fe3O4-SDS (2:1) and (2:3) composites were 7.9 and 8.5. The optimum condition of the Fe3O4-SDS (2:1) composite at contact time of 60 minutes with concentration of 275 mg/L and temperature of 30 oC. The optimum condition of the Fe3O4-SDS (2:3) composite at contact time of 60 minutes with concentration of 250 mg/L and temperature of 40 oC. This research refers to pseudo second order kinetics. The adsorption isotherm of the Fe3O4-SDS (2:1) composite leads to the Freudlich isotherm model, while the Fe3O4-SDS (2:3) composite leads to the Langmuir isotherm model. The adsorption process takes place exothermically and occurs non-spontaneously.
