INTOLERANSI PADA PENYANDANG DISABILITAS TUNARUNGU DALAM FILM "AYAH, MENGAPA AKU BERBEDA?"

This research aims to understand the intolerance in the movie "Ayah, Mengapa Aku Berbeda?" by using Roland Barthes semiotics as a data analysis tool in the form of cut images or scenes in the movie. Film as a media has a role that serves as a representation tool for the Deaf disability group. The "Ayah, Mengapa Aku Berbeda?" was chosen by the researcheron the basis of the theme related to equality for people with disabilities. The results of research related to the denotation and connotation meanings in the film "Ayah, Mengapa Aku Berbeda?" illustrate intolerance that occurs through prejudice, alienation, and negative stigma. Intolerance in this film is shown in several physically and psychologically violent behaviors that lead Angel to self-abjection. In addition, the results also reveal the myths circulating in society, where people with Deaf disabilities, in this case played by Angel, are often used as objects of pity and not treated as equal individuals. This research contributes to the study of intolerance towards Deaf people based on the representation of the movie "Ayah, Mengapa Aku Berbeda?" which is shown denotatively, connotatively, and mythically. Furthermore, it is hoped that filmmakers can portray Deaf people as positive images.
