HUBUNGAN USIA DAN DUKUNGAN KELUARGA DENGAN TINGKAT KEPATUHAN MINUM OBAT ANTIHIPERTENSI PADA PASIEN HIPERTENSI RAWAT JALAN DI RS MUHAMMADIYAH PALEMBANG

Adherence to medication is an important factor in the success of therapy in hypertensive patients to prevent complications and keep blood pressure under control. However, the previous research has shown mixed results regarding the factors that affect medication adherence, especially the age and family support. Some studies report that an age is related to the medication adherence while other studies have found no significant association. Likewise, although considered to be able to increase the compliance, the findings of the study of the family support are still varied. This study aimed to find out the relationship among the age and family support and the level of adherence to taking antihypertensive drugs in outpatient hypertension patients of the Muhammadiyah Hospital of Palembang. This study used a cross sectional design. The number of the sample was 145 respondents selected using the purposive sampling technique. The data collection instrument used a demographic data questionnaire, a family support questionnaire and a questionnaire on the level of adherence to the Morisky Medication Andeherence Scale (MMAS-8) in the Indonesian version. The data were analyzed using the Chi-Square statistical test. The results of the Chi-Square test showed a significant relationship between the age and the level of adherence to antihypertensive drugs with the p value of 0.002
