DAYA HAMBAT EKSTRAK GAMBIR (UNCARIA GAMBIR ROXB) TERHADAP ENZIM GLUKOSILTRANSFERASE DARI STREPTOCOCCUS MUTANS (LITERATURE REVIEW)
Latar belakang: Karies gigi merupakan penyakit yang disebabkan oleh aktivitas mikroba pada karbohidrat yang terfermentasi. Sumber utama plak dan karies gigi adalah mikroorganisme khususnya strain bakteri Streptococcus mutans yang berperan dalam pembentukan plak. Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) memiliki glukosiltransferase surface (GTFs) yang berperan pada proses perlekatan dan virulensi bakteri pada permukaan gigi. Tanaman gambir (Uncaria gambir (Roxb.) memiliki komponen utama katekin yang dapat mencegah pembentukan glukan ekstraseluler yang mengikat bakteri S. mutans pada permukaan gigi. Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui daya hambat ekstrak gambir terhadap aktivitas enzim glukosiltransferase. Metode: Penelitian tinjauan pustaka dengan menggunakan metode systematic literature review. Hasil: . Literature review ini menggunakan tipe jurnal Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT) dan observasional sehingga tipe jurnal lain tidak ditinjau lebih lanjut. Sebanyak 6 jurnal yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi. Kesimpulan: Ekstrak gambir mengandung katekin yang dapat menghambat aktivitas enzim Glukosiltransferase dengan menghambat proses glikolisis yang berperan penting dalam pembentukan glukan polisakarida ekstraseluler. Kata kunci: karies gigi, plak gigi, Streptococcus mutans, glukosiltransferase, dan gambir (Uncaria gambir (Roxb.)Background: Dental caries is a disease caused by microbial activity on fermented carbohydrates. The main source of plaque and dental caries is microorganisms, especially the bacterial strain Streptococcus mutans which plays a role in plaque formation. Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) has surface glucosyltransferases (GTFs) which play a role in the process of bacterial adhesion and virulence on the tooth surface. Gambier plant (Uncaria gambir (Roxb.) Has a main component of catechin which can prevent the formation of extracellular glucan that binds S. mutans bacteria on the tooth surface. Objective: To determine the inhibitory power of gambir extract on the activity of the glucosyltransferase enzyme. Method: Literature review research using the systematic literature review method. Results: This literature review uses the Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT) and observational journal types so that other journal types are not reviewed further. A total of 6 journals meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Conclusion: Gambir extract contains catechins which can inhibit the activity of the Glucosyltransferase enzyme by inhibiting the glycolysis process which plays an important role in the formation of extracellular polysaccharide glucans.
