PREVALENSI IMPAKSI GIGI KANINUS BERDASARKAN RADIOGRAFI PANORAMIK DI RSKGM PROVINSI SUMATERA SELATAN TAHUN 2021-2023

Putri, Roja Awalia - Personal Name;

Background: Canine impaction tooth is a condition when a tooth cannot erupt completely in accordance with its eruption time. Maxillary canines are the most commonly impacted teeth after third molars. Confirming the diagnosis of canine tooth impaction requires supporting examinations in the form of radiographic examinations, one of which is the panoramic radiography technique. Panoramic radiography can be used as an initial examination to detect the impaction of canine teeth because it can provide an overall picture of the teeth. Research on canine tooth impaction is still very limited, while information and understanding of the position and direction of canine tooth impaction are needed to plan appropriate odontectomy actions. Objective: This study was aims to determine the prevalence of impaction of maxillary and mandibular canines on panoramic radiographic examination at the RSKGM South Sumatra Province in 2021-2023. Methods: This study is a descriptive observational study conducted on June 05-25, 2024, at the RSKGM South Sumatra Province. Samples were taken using purposive sampling, totaling 1,715 patient panoramic radiographs. Data were analyzed using the SPSS program. Results: There were 46 panoramic radiographs of patients who had impaction of canine teeth out of 1,715 panoramic radiographs.Impaction was found more in female than male patients (65.2%), the most age was 15-24 years (65.2%), the location of impaction was more in the upper jaw than the lower jaw (77.6%), the most maxillary canine tooth impaction was found to be type II, and the most mandibular canine impaction was found at level C with horizontal direction. Conclusion: The prevalence of canine teeth impaction found at the RSKGM South Sumatra Province in 2021-2023 based on panoramic radiographs, was found to be 2.6%.
