PENGARUH APLIKASI BERBASIS ANDROID TENTANG BREASTFEEDING FATHER TERHADAP PENGETAHUAN SUAMI PASIEN POST SECTIO CAESAREA
The success of exclusive breastfeeding is strongly influenced by spousal support, particularly among mothers who have undergone cesarean sections, as they often experience pain and limited mobility that hinder breastfeeding practices. Insufficient knowledge among husbands regarding their role as breastfeeding fathers may reduce their ability to provide adequate support for successful breastfeeding. One strategy to improve such knowledge is through health education interventions. This study aimed to determine the effect of an Android-based Breastfeeding Father application on the knowledge level of husbands of post cesarean section patients. The study was conducted in two stages. The first stage involved application development using a Research and Development (R&D) approach with a limited trial involving 20 respondents (husbands of breastfeeding mothers). The second stage evaluated the effectiveness of the application using a quantitative design with a two-group pretest–posttest control group design. A total of 36 respondents (husbands of post-cesarean section patients) were recruited using accidental sampling and divided into an intervention group (breastfeeding counselor education plus the Breastfeeding Father application) and a control group (breastfeeding counselor education only). Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire and analyzed using paired t-tests and independent t-tests with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that in Phase I, the Breastfeeding Father application was successfully developed. In Phase II, there was a significant increase in knowledge before and after the intervention in both groups. The independent sample t-test revealed a statistically significant difference between the two groups after the intervention (p = 0.000), with the intervention group demonstrating a greater improvement in knowledge. These findings indicate that health education delivered through an Android-based Breastfeeding Father application is effective in improving husbands’ knowledge in supporting breastfeeding among post-cesarean section mothers. Therefore, this approach can be considered an alternative educational strategy to enhance paternal involvement in breastfeeding support.
