PERAN THE ASPINALL FOUNDATION-INDONESIA PROGRAM (TAF-IP) DALAM KONSERVASI PRIMATA ENDEMIK YANG TERANCAM PUNAH DI INDONESIA

Julianingsih, Anindia Farida - Personal Name;

Isu lingkungan hidup mulai menjadi pembicaraan internasional setelah terjadinya perang dingin dimana negara-negara mulai sadar akan pentingnya lingkungan hidup, Hadirnya industrialisasi membuat bertambahnya jumlah populasi menyebabkan jumlah penggunaan sumber daya alam semakin berlebihan. Environmental issues began to become an international conversation after the cold war where countries began to realize the importance of the nature environment. The presence of industrialization makes the increasing number of populations causes the amount of use of natural resources increasingly excessive. It causes a decrease in environmental quality. Environmental damage affects the existence of various types of wildlife. Deforestation is a threat of extinction for wildlife, especially primate animals due to habitat loss. Primate populations in Indonesia are currently facing the threat of decline due to habitat constriction and poaching, based on data from the IUCN in Indonesia there are 34 endemic primate species with Endangered or threatened status. CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) classifies plants and animals species in two categories, namely Appendix I and Appendix II. To prevent extinction, Indonesia's endemic primates require special protection. The presence of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) that are concerned with animal conservation issues can help the government in the conservation of endemic primates in Indonesia. One NGO that focuses on endangered wildlife conservation is The Aspinall Foundation-Indonesia Program (TAF-IP). Author is interested in analyzing how the role of TAF-IP in the conservation of endemic endangered primates in Indonesia. The theory used in this research is the NGO role theory by David Lewis and Nazneen Kanji which consists of three roles namely implementers, catalysts and partnerships. The method used is descriptive qualitative method. The results of this research show that TAF-IP has fulfilled the three roles of NGO based on the theory proposed by David Lewis in the conservation of endemic endangered primates in Indonesia. Keywords: Environmental Issues, Conservation, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Endemic Primates
