The quality of life of patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis often declines due to continuous physical and psychological changes. Previous studies have reported inconsistent findings regarding the relationship between social support and the duration of hemodialysis with patients quality of life. This study aimed to examine the relationship, strength, and direction of the association between social support and duration of hemodialysis with the quality of life of patients with chronic kidney disease at Palembang BARI Regional General Hospital. This study employed a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 47 respondents were recruited using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) Indonesian version to assess social support, a demographic data form to measure the duration of hemodialysis, and the Kidney Disease Quality of Life-36 (KDQOL-36TM) Indonesian version to assess quality of life. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank correlation test with a significance level of a 0.05. The results indicated a significant relationship between social support and quality of life among patients with chronic kidney disease (p-value = 0.000; r = 0.599), indicating a moderate positive correlation. In addition, a significant relationship was found between the duration of hemodialysis and quality of life (p-value = 0.000; r = -0.617), indicating a strong negative correlation. Social support plays an important role in helping patients feel cared for and supported, thereby enhancing their ability to adapt to their illness and improving their quality of life. Conversely, longer duration of hemodialysis is associated with increased fatigue and deterioration in physical and psychological conditions, which may lead to a decline in quality of life.
