KEPATUHAN PENGGUNAAN LENSA KONTAK PADA MAHASISWA PROGRAM STUDI PENDIDIKAN DOKTER FAKULTAS KEDOKTERAN UNSRI ANGKATAN 2022-2025

Background: The use of contact lenses continues to increase among university students, both for cosmetic purposes and refractive correction. However, improper usage behavior may increase the risk of complications, particularly when hygiene and wearing duration are not adequately managed. This study aimed to describe the compliance level regarding contact lens use among medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sriwijaya, class of 2022–2025. Methods: This research was a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire distributed via Google Form to 32 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate (Chi-square and Fisher’s exact tests) analyses with SPSS. Results: Most respondents were female (90.6%), and the most common purpose of use was cosmetic (50%). Soft contact lenses were used by the majority of participants (93.8%), and 62.5% reported wearing lenses for less than 8 hours per day. More than half of respondents obtained lenses from non-professional sources such as online shops (53.1%). The majority demonstrated good compliance with usage guidelines (75%). However, complications were reported by 81.3% of respondents, with discomfort during use being the most common symptom (68.8%). Conclusion: Although most respondents demonstrated good compliance with recommended contact lens use guidelines, the high prevalence of complications.
