ANALISIS ISI NARASI TOLERANSI TOKOH AGAMA HABIB JAFAR DAN USTADZ KHALID BASALAMAH DI PLATFORM YOUTUBE

Hadinata, Yulizar - Personal Name;

This research discusses the issues of religious tolerance often encountered in Indonesian society, particularly the lack of understanding regarding tolerance and the tendency to misinterpret its meaning. It emphasizes that for Muslims, a proper understanding is necessary for tolerance to function effectively. Islamic religious tolerance does not mean freely participating in the worship and rituals of other religions without any governing rules; instead, tolerance should be understood as a system and guideline for worship, allowing freedom for different religions to practice their beliefs without coercion to follow another religion. The aim of this study is to examine the understanding of tolerance presented by religious figures Habib Jafar and Ustadz Khalid Basalamah through their narrative content on YouTube to the viewers, i.e., the online community on social media, with the goal of educating society for its implementation. The internet, in this case, YouTube, facilitates these two figures in disseminating their knowledge regarding religious tolerance. The research method uses a comparative qualitative approach with a virtual ethnography strategy through the social construction theory approach of Berger and Luckmann. The study finds that the tolerance preaching conducted by Habib Jafar and Ustadz Khalid Basalamah has several differences in the use of words, references, and expressions. Habib Jafar uses relaxed language, references from the Prophet's biography, and contemporary diction targeting the youth, while Ustadz Khalid uses firm language, references from the Quran and Hadith, and diction suitable for the general public. Their similarity lies in their frequent use of advice, references from the Prophet’s biography and friendly expressions, as well as positive reactions from the audience. This occurs because of their knowledge, which they use to interpret the understanding of tolerance conveyed through narrative content on YouTube to the viewers, seen through the lens of the social construction theory approach.
