HUBUNGAN KOMUNIKASI TERAPEUTIK PERAWAT DENGAN KEPATUHAN DIET PADA PASIEN DIABETES MELITUS DI PUSKESMAS MAKRAYU PALEMBANG

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease that requires long-term management, one of which is through dietary compliance. However, dietary non-compliance remains a common problem among Diabetes Mellitus patients in various healthcare facilities, including Makrayu Community Health Center of Palembang. Nurses' therapeutic communication plays an important role in improving patient understanding and motivation to adhere to the recommended diet. This study aims to determine the relationship between nurses' therapeutic communication and dietary compliance in Diabetes Mellitus patients at Makrayu Community Health Center of Palembang. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. A sample was 60 respondents was selected using the accidental sampling technique. The research instrument consisted of a therapeutic communication and dietary adherence questionnaire, with data analysis using the Chi-square test. The results showed that the majority of respondents (35) had good therapeutic communication, 22 (36.7%) had adequate therapeutic communication, and 3 (5.0%) had poor therapeutic communication. Dietary adherence level showed that compliant with 29 respondents (48.3%) and non-compliant with 31 (51.7%). The Chi-square test results indicated a significant relationship between nurses' therapeutic communication and dietary adherence in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). This study indicates that the better the therapeutic communication provided by nurses, the higher the level of dietary adherence in patients with diabetes mellitus. Therefore, therapeutic communication is an important aspect in improving the quality of nursing care.
