UJI REPELENSI EKSTRAK KULIT BAWANG PUTIH ALLIUM SATIVUM (LINNAEUS) TERHADAP KUMBANG BERAS (SITOPHILUS ORYZAE L) (COLEOPTERA : CURCULIONIDAE).

Mubarok, Zaki - Personal Name;

Rice is one of the foodstuffs that is vulnerable to pests, one of which is Sitophilus oryzae. This pest can cause a decrease in the quality and quantity of rice during storage. Controlling S. oryzae requires an effective and environmentally friendly approach. Garlic contains essential oils that are antibacterial and antiseptic. Garlic also contains sulfur compounds which include the chemical allin that makes raw garlic taste bitter. The use of garlic peel can also be used because the peel of garlic contains several active compounds that are beneficial to plants, including minerals (Ca, K, Mg, P, Zn, Fe), auxin and gibberellin hormones which are hormones that trigger plant growth, and also flavonoid and acetogenin compounds that function as anti-pests. Each treatment was given 10 grams of rice and 25 S. oryzae insects. This observation was carried out for 15 days. This study began with the construction of an olfactometer, where a ¾ inch diameter pipe was cut into sections of 20 cm (right and left arms) and 10 cm (legs). The pipe was shaped oval, covered with mica plastic, glued with tape, and clogged with styrofoam to prevent S. oryzae from escaping. Then the manufacture of insecticides by preparing as much as 500 g of garlic peel cleaned and then soaked in 500 ml of distilled water for 24 hours, then filtered and the extract is ready for use. Based on the observation of the repellency index at a concentration of 100%, the repellency index value is 36.6% and falls into the weak category. This value indicates that garlic peel extract has the potential to repel or reduce the activity of S. oryzae even though it is not optimal. This value can be caused by the content of active compounds in the extract, although garlic has components such as allicin which has the potential as a repellent, the concentration of these compounds may not be optimal. Based on the observation data, it can be concluded that garlic is very potential as a repellent of S. oryzae because of the sharp aroma it produces which can cause a poisoning effect because it disrupts the respiratory activity of the beetle, and finally S. oryzae stays away. the characteristics of S. oryzae larvae before being treated will actively move, but after being treated with various concentrations. Larvae have shown weak activity and tend to stay still and not actively move after being treated. Suggestions for further thesis research to use a wider concentration and scale. Keywords: Olfaktometer, mortalitas, repellent
