PENGARUH PEER GROUP TERHADAP PENGETAHUAN DAN SIKAP TENTANG ULTRA PROCESSED FOOD PADA ANAK USIA SEKOLAH
Nutritional problems among school-aged children remain a major public health challenge in Indonesia, characterized by the triple burden of malnutrition. One of the contributing factors to nutritional problems in this age group is the high consumption of ultra-processed food (UPF). Excessive consumption of UPF can lead to obesity, stunting, dental caries, diabetes mellitus, and even cancer. Low levels of knowledge regarding the content and health impacts of UPF contribute to the development of unhealthy food selection attitudes. School-aged children are in a stage of social development in which peer influence becomes increasingly significant. Therefore, a peer group intervention was applied in this study, as children at this age tend to listen to, be easily influenced by, and imitate their peers’ behaviors. This study aimed to determine the effect of peer group intervention on knowledge and attitudes toward UPF among school-aged children. A quantitative research method was used using a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 30 students from grades 4, 5, and 6 at SD Negeri 08 Indralaya, selected using stratified random sampling. Data analysis was conducted using the Marginal Homogeneity test for knowledge and the McNemar test for attitudes. The results showed an increase in knowledge and attitude scores regarding UPF after the peer group intervention. There was a statistically significant difference in knowledge after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). However, no statistically significant difference was found in attitudes after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.250 (p > 0.05). The peer group method was effective in improving knowledge about UPF. However, it should be implemented continuously and supported by teachers, health professionals, and families to strengthen the development of children’s attitudes toward UPF consumption.
