PROFIL KLINIKOHISTOPATOLOGI SUMSUM TULANG DI BAGIAN PATOLOGI ANATOMI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG PERIODE 2023-2024

Alifah, Rifdah - Personal Name;

Background: Bone marrow trephine biopsy is an essential diagnostic procedure for hematological diseases through assessment of morphology, fibrosis, cellularity, and tumor involvement. Since 2023, Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang has routinely performed bone marrow biopsies; however, clinicohistopathological data remain limited. This study aimed to describe the bone marrow clinicohistopathological profile during 2023–2024. Methods: This retrospective descriptive study included 80 patients who underwent bone marrow biopsy using a total sampling technique. Data were analyzed descriptively using IBM SPSS version 27.0. Results: Most biopsies were performed in the second semester of 2024 (45.0%) and the fewest in the first semester of 2023 (8.8%). The most common age group was 20–39 years (31.3%) with male predominance (57.5%). Most patients had no splenomegaly (61.2%) or hepatomegaly (82.5%). Myeloproliferative Neoplasm was the most frequent diagnosis, particularly Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (21.3%). Histopathological findings were dominated by MF-0 fibrosis (38.8%) and hypercellularity (38.8%). Laboratory findings were mainly anemia (73.8%) and leukocytosis (61.3%). Discussion: The predominance of Myeloproliferative Neoplasm with mild fibrosis and hypercellularity reflects typical biological features of myeloid disorders. The absence of organomegaly in most patients indicates that the lack of organ enlargement does not rule out the presence of hematological disease. Summary: The clinicohistopathological profile of bone marrow in this study was predominantly observed in adult male patients, with microscopic features characterized by mild fibrosis and hypercellularity, and myeloproliferative neoplasm as the most frequent diagnosis. Bone marrow biopsy plays a crucial role in establishing the diagnosis of hematological disorders. Keywords: Bone marrow biopsy, clinicohistopathological profile, hematological diseases
