PERBANDINGAN KARAKTERISTIK PASIEN GAGAL GINJAL KRONIS DENGAN TERAPI HEMODIALISIS MENGGUNAKAN AV SHUNT DIBANDINGKAN CATHETER DOUBLE LUMEN
Background: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive condition that requires long-term hemodialysis treatment. Hemodialysis results are greatly influenced by vascular access, especially Arteriovenous Shunt (AV Shunt) as permanent access and Double Lumen Catheter (CDL) as temporary access. The difference between the patient's characteristics and the clinical condition is often a factor in the selection of both accesses. Objective: To compare demographic and clinical characteristics, as well as to analyze the relationship between the type of vascular access and complications experienced by hemodialysis patients using AV Shunt and CDL. Methods: This study used a Cross-Section design with 129 CKD patients at the hemodialysis facility of RSMH Palembang. Data were collected through medical examinations and analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test for numerical variables and the Chi-Square test for category variables. The significance level was set at p < 0.05. Results: The results showed that there was no significant difference between the AV Shunt and CDL user groups (p = 0.700). However, there was a difference in the same hemodialysis, where AV Shunt users had a longer duration of treatment (p < 0.001). The variables of sex, education level, comorbidity, complexity of vascular access, and education showed no significant association with the type of vascular access (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Patient characteristics were more noticeable when undergoing hemodialysis, although other significant demographic and clinical variables did not show significant differences between AV Shunt and CDL users. There was no significant correlation between the type of access used and the complexity of vascular access.
