PERTUMBUHAN DAN HASIL TANAMAN KATUK (Sauropus androgynus (L.) Merr.) PADA BERBAGAI TINGKAT KETINGGIAN AIR TANAH
Katuk (Sauropus androgynus (L.) Merr.) is an annual local vegetable that is highly nutritious and has the potential to be developed as a commodity crop in swampy areas. However, farmers in swampy areas still face the main problem of fluctuating groundwater levels that are difficult to control, resulting in suboptimal and unstable katuk growth and yields. This study aims to determine the most suitable groundwater level for katuk plant growth and yield. The research hypothesis is that a groundwater level of 4 cm (W1) provides the best growth and yield. The study was conducted using a randomized block design (RBD) with one factor, groundwater level, consisting of four treatments, namely no flooding (W0), 4 cm (W1), 8 cm (W2), and 12 cm (W3), each repeated four times. The parameters observed included vegetative growth, morphological response, and fresh and dry plant biomass. Morphologically, the results showed that the best morphological growth of katuk plants was indicated by the parameters of number of shoots, shoot height, shoot diameter, and SPAD value, obtained in the 4 cm water level treatment (W1). This treatment was able to provide optimal water conditions without disturbing root aeration, thereby supporting maximum vegetative growth of the plants. These conditions were able to maintain a balance between water availability and soil aeration. Therefore, a soil water depth of 4 cm is recommended as a reference for water management in katuk cultivation in swampy areas.
