HUBUNGAN INDEKS MASSA TUBUH, KADAR TRIGLISERIDA LAMA DIABETES MELITUS TIPE 2 TERHADAP KEJADIAN METABOLIC DYSFUNCTION-ASSOCIATED FATTY LIVER DISEASE (MAFLD)

Faradiba, Divia - Personal Name;

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) was a chronic metabolic disease with an increasing prevalence, accompanied by hepatic complications such as Metabolic Dysfunction–Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD). The duration of T2DM affected the severity of metabolic disturbances, insulin resistance, and hepatic fat accumulation. However, data on the incidence of MAFLD at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang were still limited. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design with a sample of 43 T2DM patients recorded in medical records in 2025. Inclusion criteria included patients diagnosed with T2DM who had undergone MAFLD diagnostic examinations (ultrasound/FibroScan). Data were analyzed using univariate analysis to describe sample characteristics and bivariate analysis to assess the relationships between T2DM duration, BMI status, triglyceride levels, and the occurrence of MAFLD. Results: Frequency distribution showed that most respondents had normal BMI (37.2%), although overweight and obesity remained significant. Triglyceride levels were predominantly in the normal (37.2%) and high (37.2%) categories, reflecting metabolic dysfunction in most samples. The majority of respondents had suffered from T2DM for 0–7 years (60.5%), while 39.5% had had the disease for more than 7 years. Conclusion: There was a significant association between BMI and the duration of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus with the occurrence of MAFLD. Patients with higher BMI and longer T2DM duration had a greater risk of developing hepatic steatosis. Triglyceride levels did not show a significant association with MAFLD, although they theoretically remained a metabolic risk factor. Preventive efforts through early detection, weight control, and optimal metabolic management were required to reduce MAFLD progression in T2DM patients. Keywords: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, MAFLD, Disease Duration, Triglycerides, Body Mass Index.
