Volunteering is an activity carried out voluntarily that anyone can participate in and is carried out because of self-motivation to spend time and energy to help the community without any coercion from anywhere and without reward. At Sriwijaya University there are a number of students who are interested in becoming volunteers. The reseach with the tittle The Phenomenon of Sriwijaya University Students Becoming Volunteering aims to determine the in order to motive and because motive Sriwijaya University student become volunteers. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with a phenomenological reseach strategy. The data collection technique in this research is through a process of observation, interview and documentation. The result of this reseach obtained several in order to motive and because motive Sriwijaya University students to become volunteers. The in order to motive Sriwijaya University students to become volunteers are (1) benefit in the form of certificatas, (2) expanding social relations, (3) increasing experience and insight, and (4) contributing to society and the environment. The because motive Sriwijaya University students becoming volunteers are (1) the influence of their frienship environment, and (2) encouragement from within themselve. The meaning of in order to motive Sriwijaya University student becoming volunteers in to improve their ability to solve problems, work together in teams, and increase confidence. Meanwhile, the meaning of because motive Sriwijaya University student become volunteers because of their inner awareness of providing benefits to society and the environment and proof that the friendship environment also han positive impact.
