HUBUNGAN ANTARA KETIMPANGAN PENDIDIKAN, KEMISKINAN, DAN PERTUMBUHAN EKONOMI PROVINSI DI PULAU SUMATERA

This study aims to determine the relationship between educational inequality, poverty, and economic growth in the Provinces of Sumatra Island 2004-2022. The data used are secondary data sourced from the Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS). The analysis techniques used are the Panel Vector Error Correction Model (PVECM) and Dumitrescu Hurlin Causality. The results of the study show that educational inequality has a close relationship with poverty levels, where areas with lower access and quality of education tend to have higher poverty rates. In addition, poverty also affects educational inequality, creating a continuous cycle of poverty. On the other hand, economic growth shows a significant influence on educational inequality with provinces with higher GRDP tending to have lower educational inequality. However, uneven economic growth can worsen this inequality. Based on these findings, it is hoped that government policies can improve aspects of education and public awareness of education in order to increase development investment for each region, both at the Regency/City and Provincial levels in Indonesia.
