Rivan, Ahmad Agus - Personal Name;

This research, titled "Strategies of Lowland Rice Farmers in Facing Climate Change in Pematang Buluran Village, Sirah Pulau Padang Subdistrict, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency," aims to understand the strategies employed by lowland rice farmers in Pematang Buluran Village to cope with climate change. The study uses a descriptive qualitative research method with a case study approach. Data were collected from 15 informants through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using James C. Scott's subsistence ethics theory. The results show that the social and economic lives of rice farmers are disrupted by climate change, leading to a decline in income. Factors contributing to this include a lack of knowledge about climate change due to low education levels and the farmers' dependence on climatic conditions. This situation threatens the farmers' family needs and well-being, putting them at risk of poverty. To meet their family's needs, farmers effectively engage in informal sector jobs such as fishing, land clearing labor, construction work, farming, songket weaving, or migrating to other villages. These efforts require the farmers to work continuously and seek job information from neighbors, friends, family, or relatives. The information gathered often leads to jobs as laborers or construction workers outside the area or selling songket fabric through external agents. Migrant workers and laborers are predominantly male and young villagers. As a consequence of these efforts, many children do not continue their education to higher levels, farming in the village is left to the elderly, and unemployment in the village decreases. Meanwhile, selling songket through agents helps preserve the culture and songket weaving profession. Keyword: Climate Change, Rice Farmer, Subsistence Ethics Strategy
