TERAPI STIMULASI ORAL MOTOR DALAM MENINGKATKAN REFLEKS HISAP PADA PASIEN DENGAN BAYI BERAT LAHIR RENDAH (BBLR) DI RUANG SELINCAH LANTAI II NEONATUS RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG
Background: Low Birth Weight Infants (LBWI) are babies with a birth weight of less than 2500 grams regardless of gestation period, birth weight is the weight weighed 1 (one) hour after birth. LBWI experience many problems including hypothermia, respiratory distress syndrome, intracranial hemorrhage, hyperbilirubinemia, and hypoglycemia due to a weak sucking reflex (baby sucking) resulting in insufficient intake. Most LBWI experience poor suction reflexes due to the immature condition of the baby, one of the efforts to improve suction reflexes with oral motor stimulation. Objective: Describe the results of pediatric nursing practice that focuses on nursing care for LBWI to improve suction reflexes in accordance with the review of evidence-based learning. Methods: The method used is a qualitative description with a case study approach and journal review on LBWI patients to improve suction reflexes. Results: of the three patients managed, the nursing problems were found to be ineffective breastfeeding, infection prevention, risk of hypothermia and risk of aspiration and the interventions carried out were breastfeeding education, providing opportunities to suck on babies, oral motor stimulation, nutritional management, infant nutrition education, infection prevention, hypothermia management and aspiration prevention. Discussion: Oral motor interventions increase the sensitivity of the oral muscles, increase oral strength, and activate the sucking reflex, thereby increasing suction. Oral stimulation by massaging the tone of the vagus nerve (X nerve) will increase the absorption of insulin and gastrin with this better absorption of food and faster weight gain. Increased activity of the vagus nerve will cause the baby to get hungry faster which will stimulate the suction reflex so that it will often suckle on its mother. Conclusion: oral motor stimulation therapy intervention is highly recommended to develop and improve suction reflex skills in LBWI.
