PEMANFAATAN LIMBAH PLASTIK HDPE BERTEKSTUR SEBAGAI MATERIAL SUBSTITUSI PASIR PADA SIFAT MEKANIK BETON
Plastic waste is increasing globally and poses significant environmental challenges. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), one of the most widely produced plastics, is difficult to decompose naturally due to its strength, durability, and chemical resistance, making it a potential alternative construction material and a solution for plastic waste management. This study investigates the effect of pretreated HDPE pellets as a partial sand substitute on the mechanical properties of concrete. Cylindrical specimens were prepared with HDPE contents of 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30%. Results show that incorporating textured HDPE affects both compressive and splitting tensile strengths. The 20% HDPE mixture was identified as the optimum composition, achieving a compressive strength close to normal concrete and increasing splitting tensile strength by 5%. Pretreatment of HDPE pellets improved the bond with cement paste, minimizing compressive strength reduction and enhancing tensile performance, while allowing greater utilization of HDPE. Keywords: HDPE plastic waste, Pretreatment of plastic pellets, Compressive strength, Splitting tensile strength, Concrete mix.
