SINTESIS BENTONIT-Fe3O4/GRAPHENE OXIDE UNTUK DEGRADASI ZAT WARNA METILEN BIRU

Methylene blue is a dye widely used in the textile industry due to its high photostability; however, its release into aquatic environments poses significant risks to aquatic organisms and human health. In this study, a Bentonite–Fe₃O₄/Graphene Oxide composite was synthesized for the degradation of methylene blue. The synthesis was carried out using ultrasonic-assisted and co-precipitation methods, and the resulting material was characterized using Raman spectroscopy, XRD, FTIR, and SEM-EDX. The XRD pattern showed characteristic peaks at 2θ = 12.94°, 26.66°, and 35.56°, with a crystallite size of 14.36 nm. FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of O–H stretching at 3412 cm⁻¹, C=O and C=C groups of GO at 1716 cm⁻¹ and 1580 cm⁻¹, the Fe–O band at approximately 582 cm⁻¹, and the Si–O vibration of bentonite at 1039 cm⁻¹. SEM-EDX revealed that the composite consisted of Fe (47%), C (13.4%), O (31.4%), and Si (3.8%). Raman spectra of GO exhibited a higher D-band intensity compared to the G-band, with an ID/IG ratio of 1.27, indicating the typical defect structure of synthesized GO. The composite exhibited a pHpzc value of 8.3. The optimum conditions for methylene blue removal were obtained at 15 ppm, pH 9, and a contact time of 60 minutes, yielding a removal efficiency of 97.05% without irradiation and up to 100% under light irradiation.
