HIDROLISIS SELULOSA DENGAN KATALIS BIOCHAR TERSULFONASI PADA VARIASI SUHU DAN WAKTU REAKSI
ABSTRACT : Cellulose hydrolysis is the process of breaking down β-1,4 glycosidic bonds into glucose and its derivatives. The cellulose hydrolysis reaction can be accelerated by sulfonated biochar catalysts from oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) and coconut shells (CS). This study was conducted to determine the effect of temperature and catalytic time variations of sulfonated biochar hydrothermal carbonization and pyrolysis on cellulose hydrolysis and to determine the optimum conditions of temperature, time, and catalyst weight to maximize reducing sugar production.Biochar was prepared by hydrothermal carbonization and pyrolysis methods and the sulfonation process was soaked with H2SO4 98% to introduce SO3H groups to the biochar surface. The sulfonated biochar results were characterized by FTIR and CHNS analysis. Catalyst FTIR characterization results in the absorption region of 1025-1171 cm-1 indicated the presence of SO3H groups. The results of sulfur analysis showed an increase in sulfur content in the hydrothermal method of
