EKSPERIMENTAL STABILITAS GASIFIKASI UPDRAFT DENGAN MODIFIKASI TIGA SALURAN GAS KELUAR PADA BIOMASSA TEMPURUNG KELAPA

This study aims to assess the stability of the coconut shell biomass gasification process using a modified updraft gasification reactor with three gas outlets: an upper outlet, a reduction outlet, and a combustion outlet. This modification was carried out to reduce tar formation, determine operational characteristics and flame stability, and compare the performance of the three outlets. The gasification process produces flammable gases such as carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen (H₂), and methane (CH₄). In the test, coconut shells of the same size were used and the air speed from the blower was utilized. The gasification process began with initial ignition using kerosene, then observations were made on the flames produced from the three channels to evaluate combustion stability. The parameters observed included the time of gasification gas emergence, the duration of the flame, and the total duration of operation. The test results showed that combustible gas began to form at 15 to 25 minutes. The channel that first produced a flame was the upper channel, followed by the reduction channel, and finally the combustion channel. The average operation time was recorded at 7709.4 seconds, with an average flame duration in the upper channel of 5461.2 seconds, the reduction channel 5236.8 seconds, and the combustion channel 4281 seconds. The average Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) value obtained was 6.13. This research is expected to support the use of coconut shell biomass as an alternative energy source to replace fossil fuels.
