RESPONS KEMOTERAPI PASIEN KARSINOMA NASOFARING YANG MENDAPAT SUPLEMENTASI VITAMIN D DI RS MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG
Background: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is one of the most common malignancies in Indonesia, with the majority of patients presenting at an advanced stage. Vitamin D has been suggested to play a role in improving treatment response, but clinical evidence remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of vitamin D supplementation on treatment response in NPC patients undergoing chemotherapy. Methods: A nested-cohort study was conducted at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang from April to August 2025, involving 20 newly diagnosed NPC patients receiving chemotherapy. The intervention group received 2000 IU of vitamin D supplementation, while the control group received chemotherapy alone. Treatment response was evaluated after six series of chemotherapy. Result: The most common treatment response was complete response (45%), followed by partial response (45%), stable disease (5%), and progressive disease (5%). Complete response was more frequently observed in the chemotherapy + vitamin D group (57.1%) compared to chemotherapy alone (38.5%). Progressive disease occurred only in the chemotherapy-alone group (7.7%). The difference in treatment response between the two groups was not statistically significant (p = 0.521). Conclusion: Supplementation with 2000 IU of vitamin D during six series of chemotherapy did not show a statistically significant effect on treatment response in NPC patients. However, a trend toward increased complete response and prevention of progressive disease was observed in the vitamin D group. Keyword: Chemotherapy, NPC, therapy response, supplementation, vitamin D
