HUBUNGAN KARAKTERISTIK DAN PERILAKU APLIKASI PESTISIDA DENGAN GEJALA KERACUNAN PADA PETANI SAYUR DI DESA SUNGAI PUA KECAMATAN SUNGAI PUA KABUPATEN AGAM SUMATRA BARAT

The use of pesticides in agriculture aims to increase productivity; however, pesticides containing organophosphates and carbamates pose a risk of causing nervous system disorders through the inhibition of the acetylcholinesterase enzyme. Pesticide exposure may lead to various poisoning symptoms, including fatigue, restlessness, headache, blurred vision, excessive salivation, nausea, decreased appetite, muscle weakness, and muscle cramps. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between characteristics and pesticide application behaviors and pesticide poisoning symptoms among vegetable farmers in Sungai Pua Village, Sungai Pua Subdistrict, Agam Regency, West Sumatra. This study employed an observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of vegetable farmers in Sungai Pua Subdistrict, with a total sample of 117 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews using a structured questionnaire. Data analysis included univariate analysis, bivariate analysis using the chi-square test, and multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression with a predictive model. The bivariate analysis showed that age (p = 0.046), length of employment (p = 0.036), use of personal protective equipment (PPE) (p = 0.045), and level of knowledge (p = 0.022) were significantly associated with pesticide poisoning symptoms. Meanwhile, education level, gender, income, attitude, and practice were not significantly associated with pesticide poisoning symptoms. Multivariate analysis indicated that knowledge was the most dominant factor influencing pesticide poisoning symptoms, with a prevalence ratio (PR) of 3.381 (95% CI: 2.553–4.317).
