PERSEPSI MASYARAKAT TERHADAP MITOS RAMBUT BATIN TIKAL DI DESA GUDANG KABUPATEN BANGKA SELATAN, KEPULAUAN BANGKA BELITUNG

Maharani, Salsabila Mutiara - Personal Name;

This study aims to explain how the people of Gudang Village interpret the myth of Rambut Batin Tikal, which is still alive in local tradition today. The issue raised is the emergence of two groups of perceptions within the community, namely those who believe the myth to be a spiritual legacy of their ancestors and those who do not believe it. To understand these differing views, the study uses Robbins' (2019) theory of perception, which states that a person's perception of an object is influenced by factors within the individual, the characteristics of the object being observed, and the environmental conditions in which the individual finds themselves. The study was conducted using qualitative methods through in-depth interviews with several informants consisting of both native and migrant communities. The results of the study show that the group of people who believe in the Rambut Batin Tikal myth are usually influenced by cultural values, attachment to stories passed down from generation to generation, and certain experiences that they consider to be signs of supernatural powers. Meanwhile, groups that do not believe generally have a stronger educational background or religious understanding, are accustomed to thinking logically, and do not have empirical experiences that could strengthen their belief in the myth. Religious factors and rational thinking are the main reasons why they reject the belief in the existence of special powers in Rambut Batin Tikal. Overall, this study shows that myths persist not only as a form of belief but also as part of the cultural identity of a community. On the other hand, the emergence of disbelief illustrates the changing mindset of a community that is becoming increasingly critical as individual knowledge and experience develop. The differences in perception are the result of interactions between local culture, religious beliefs, and the personal experiences of each resident.
